In Uniprahics NX2 is there a way to reak an extension line?

RE: Breaking an extension line in Unigraphics NX2.

Yes, put a gap in the line.

How do you put a gap in the line? I use CATIA V4 & V5. That has the ability, but I can't find it in UG NX2!

RE: Breaking an extension line in Unigraphics NX2.

Insert>Symbol>User defined symbol, then pull down to pick the utility directory and add one of the gaps. You'll then need to pick the approximate spot on the dimension leader and often edit the origin to adjust its position. Best to get into the dialog then hit <F1> to read the help.

Good Luck

Thanks for you reply. This seems to work on the dimension line , but I can't get it to work on the extension line. I'll keep trying.

hudson888 I got it to work. I have some fellow workers that have been on UG for 8 or nine years and none knew how to do it. I am a newbee 1 month. Thanks again.

"some fellow workers that have been on UG for 8 or nine years and none knew how to do it"

That could be because it is seldom actually necessary, but more a matter of "style".  Is this gap at a crossing of dimension and extension lines?

ewh Where dimension text was overlapping and could not be moved any where else.

RE: Breaking an extension line in Unigraphics NX2.

Good on you for getting it to work. It sounds like you'll sail past the old hands in the office at this rate. While it isn't a function that most people need to use a lot, the dialog is neither too easy to find nor the most intuitive to use. As you'd expect, most users need a hint to find it for the first time, but once found it is seldom forgotten.

For the really old hands we've been doing it more or less the same way since well before Version 10. An era most refer to as "lost in the mists of time". John Baker posts his replies with a link to his historic "Museum" website, in case you wanted to see what that might have looked like.

I've not had any luck being able to change the origins....as of now having to undo and reapply.  Only way I can find to remove the gap symbol is to go into Style for that particular dimension and turn the extension line off then back on and the gap disappears.

Tim,

If you have a gap a need to move the origin in the drafting application. Then it should be found under edit>component>move component.
