Generator not starting

Generator not starting

Generator not starting

(OP)
Recently the winding in the stator of our onan cummins DGDA 85KW generator burnt out. We have now replaced the old stator with a new one. However the generator will not start. Before we pulled the generator apart we started it just fine. Now in order to start we have to put a jumper to the fuel injection pump form the positive terminal of the battery. It seems that there is no power going to the fuel injector pump form the circuit board that monitors the running of the engine. The electrician that wired it ensures me that he wired it correct and adamantly recommends that we change the board because this is what is causing the problem. Any suggestion on how to remedy the problem.

"Any suggestion on how to remedy the problem."
Change the circuit board.

Change the circuit board.
Another suggestion;
Change the electrician.
Another sugestion, check the fuses and look for any connections that may have been broken when the stator was changed.
Also, check the wiring to the oil pressure switch, and the high temperature switch.
Note; some engines use a dual device with an oil pressure switch and an oil pressure sender in the same device.
Check that the circuit board is seeing all the inputs that it wants to see before it will give an output.

RE: Generator not starting

You didn't say, but I'm presuming this is a "Detector" control.

As waross suggested, Check the fuses on the board inside the control panel.  There are a few, but the one you'd be looking for is for the switched B+ (I believe).  These boards are pretty durable, and I doubt it went bad because of a stator R&R, unless for some reason a B+ wire was pinched to ground a zapped it somehow.

The newer Detector boards have a few LED's for elementary diagnosis of what it's trying to do.

Also look at the relay(s) inside the generator connection box.  They hang on the rear wall inside the box--may be something knocked off of one of those.

IF you don't have a Detector control, let us know.
