Effluent trough and possiable turbulence flow

Effluent trough and possiable turbulence flow

Effluent trough and possiable turbulence flow

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I am looking at a proposal to install 24" wide FRP troughs with round bottom to steel tanks but the opening in the tanks outlet walls is V-opening and I am concerned that the shape change would cause turbulence flow. Any idea how if the shape change would cause major problem and what is the proper solutions to avoid the turbulence flow problem.

                                   Thank you for your help

RE: Effluent trough and possiable turbulence flow

Major problems? Depends what is a major problem to you. The inlet V-shape might erode a bit earlier, but if that will flood the village with toxic effluent, that's a major problem.
Proper solution? Please select one of the following suggestions:
1. Ignore the shape difference and monitor the erosion due to the turbulent flow.
2. Cut the V-shaped inlet to suit the trough shape.
3. Plug the V-shaped inlet and cut a new one to suit the trough.
4. Make a transition piece to suit both ends connection.

Good luck,
gr2vessels
