CIRCULAR REFERENCE
CIRCULAR REFERENCE
(OP)
I have a problem that I have never seen. I have an assembly that I copied with references, renamed and made some minor changes to. I then copied the original assembly drawing to a new location and changed the name. now I want to change the new(copied)drawing file references to the new assembly file. Sounds easy enough... but when I change references and open the file, it is still looking at the original assembly. I have tried this on 4 computers, and one of the computers will change the references, the rest will not. So I tried to change the references using Solidworks explorer. It produces an error code " the file 3811-350 upper die cannot be used as a replacement because it would create a circular reference." has anybody come across this before?

If the old assy is in the same directory, temporarily rename the old assy using windows explorer. With this technique, the new drawing will not be able to find the old assy.
