3D rotodynamics with Gyroscopic effect

3D rotodynamics with Gyroscopic effect

(OP)
Hi,

I'm getting a bit confused on the subject if ANSYS v.11 computes or not the gyroscopic matrix with 3D structural elements such as SOLID186.
In fact, it's claimed as a major enhancement, and said in the Advanced Analysis Guide, that the Stationary Reference Frame calculations with CORIOLIS,ON,,,ON compute the gyroscopic effects for, among others, SOLID95 and SOLID186. However, the Theory Reference 15.4.2 "Rotating Structures - Gyroscopic Matrix" only mentions beams and PIPE16.
In addition, it is written that "the rotating structure must be axisymmetric", which would immediately eliminate from the start the advantage to use 3D elements instead of circular-section beams or pipes...

So, where is the truth?

Thanks in advance,

Regards
