I am having problems trying to troubleshoot a reoccuring fault on an Aquavar cpc VFD. It controls a pump at a Booster station in a water distribution system. For the last week there has been an overcurrent fault occuring on this VFD. I have meggered the cable and the pump and the results didn't show any problem with either the pump or the power cables. Is there any other tests that I can do. Thanks in advance.

The Goulds CPC manual suggests the following:

Output current is excessive. Check for and correct:
• Excessive motor load, pump overload.
• Insufficient acceleration time (parameters 1301 Ramp 1 and
1302 Ramp 2).
• Faulty motor, motor cables or connections.

This is an ABB drive I believe.  I am not as familiar with these as the the A-B PowerFlex 700.  The manual is available at http://www.goulds.com/pdf/IM167R02.pdf.

The manual does not describe exactly how this fault is tripped.  However it is possible that in the setup of the drive that the correct value of the motor FLA and service factor (these are probably parameters somewhere) are not entered and therefore the VFD is faulting on too high of current for the motor, not too high of current for the VFD.  You may want to either call Goulds or check the ABB VFD manual also.
