My CadMan is Obsolete

My CadMan is Obsolete

(OP)
Well here I was all excited, just received SW2008 in the mail and much to my disappointment they have dropped support for my beloved CadMan. I guess it was bound to come sometime why now? I did find out that 3DConnexion was offering 25% off new controllers. They don't mention any of the spaceball products. Are they still available, just not discounted? Anybody want to buy a couple Cadmans? ha, ha,

Dennis

RE: My CadMan is Obsolete

I like my Space Navigator--only two buttons, but I use keyboard shortcuts anyway.  Plus, they do seem to have a better deal than when I bought (something like $79 now for holders of a SW license--nice!).  I really only use my Navigator for adding draft or fillets to lots of faces/edges at a time--much quicker.  Otherwise, I still default to my long-ago learned arrow-key navigation.

(Of course, I use the Navigator heavily for Google Earth.)

Bummer on your loss.

Reason trumps all.  And awe transcends reason.

RE: My CadMan is Obsolete

Just moved to a SpacePilot from a CADMan. Definitely worth the extra cost for the extra control. Do miss the block on the CADMan rather than the puck on the Pilot.

RE: My CadMan is Obsolete

3Dconnexion has dropped support for serial space-balls.  But there was a work around identified during beta testing of SW 2008.

Try the following:

Load up the 2.8.2 version of the driver software on your computer.

Then what you want to do is to get the 3.4.2 version of the driver software and only load the SolidWorks plug-in.  Do not load the base 3Dconnexion driver software. Only load the SW plug-in.

This will likely get you going with SW 2008 and your serial spaceball.

Cheers,
