Making multiple cross sections
Making multiple cross sections
(OP)
In NX2.
I'm making multiple cross sections of complex assemblies. 95% of the them in the x and y planes. I what to automate this process where it puts each cross section on a different layer. Anyone have any suggestions, I was thinking this would be a good application for grip.

RE: Making multiple cross sections
If you build each section on a different layer in the first place then you'll have a more maintainable result. As of NX-3 you'll have to exit the sectioning dialog to change layers with some tedium involved. Also associative sections won't support assemblies, though you could link the geometry if you're really keen.
Perhaps NX-5 has an enhancement in this regard that has escaped me thus far. if not it would make a good one.
It would also be good if different bodies could section with curve that inherit their color. I prefer for example the way that the dynamic sectioning tool creates sections all body colored and nicely grouped, but the result isn't associative so it would be more difficult to maintain.
Otherwise I'm sure we used to be able to do this in GRIP, and it ought to be possible in NX Open programming.
Last but not least you may be happy creating sections on a drawing. It is a solution that may not suit everybody, but it is probably the most maintainable way to go about it.
Hope this helps
