pdf file converting, cleaning up lineweights & text

pdf file converting, cleaning up lineweights & text

pdf file converting, cleaning up lineweights & text

(OP)
Good morning,

I am trying to convert a map to .pdf, I can get it to convert, but when you zoom in, in Adobe the text is unreadable and lineweights are blurry, I tried saving as a jpeg, then back to pdf, it loads faster but the lineweights and text are still blurry, I know it can be done, the old map was done and works great.

Autodesk Landdesktop 2007
Acrobat 5.0

RE: pdf file converting, cleaning up lineweights & text

Are you printing to .pdf, or using the "convert" buttons that Adobe puts inside AutoCAD?  I've found the convert buttons give me a cleaner conversion.

I'm printing to a .pdf

where are these "convert" buttons located, I looked in Acad Help and all that comes up is the print to .pdf option

Thanks for your help by the way!

RE: pdf file converting, cleaning up lineweights & text

When I installed Adobe Acrobat Pro it stuck buttons in just about all the programs that were currently installed.

Go to Acrobat help and look for AutoCAD in the index.  There is a bunch of information there (but I don't see how to add the buttons to AutoCAD after the face).

I got done what I wanted to get done...I printed the map at the highest quality, scanned it in as a pdf, which made the file huge, then saved it as a jpeg,to shrink the size, then back to a pdf...wammo! worked like a charm, ending file was about 2 megs

Not sure about Landdesktop, but in regular 2008, or previous versions, to get the pdf neat you need to go into the page setup for the model you want to print, then go to the "Plot options" box, unselect "Plot with plot styles", unselect "Plot object lineweights"...
This gives a clean pdf for screen & print, but I'm not sure about use for maps, never drawn them!!

that did clean up the lineweights, the text is still a little imperfect, and the colors changed a bit, however I think it would work.

Another thing you could try is to adjust the pdf resolution or quality settings before you print to pdf.  You should be able to tweak it in the printer properties dialog box before you print.  It makes a huge difference in readability at deeper zooms.
