Seat inserts for valves

(OP)
People,

Do you know where I can read more about peek, ptfe and rptfe, devlon which are used in the valve industry?

Also, do you know if Methanol is compatible with viton seals?

Regards,
Marcell

RE: Seat inserts for valves

I am looking for similar material (seat and seal material) and their compatibility with Methanol.  I have had little luck in the search.

RE: Seat inserts for valves

Look at valve catalogs. The manufacturer usually specify the materials the valve composed of.

You could also try the Compass corrosion guide for non-metallics. Good general ref.
For better data start looking to the resin makers, CP, Bayer, BP and so on.

1. see here .....  http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=140998&page=1

2. No, Viton will start to swell in mixtures as low as 50% methanol at minimal exposure times.  Much better choices would include EPDM, FKM, or natural rubbers. (FYI - NBR is NOT a natural rubber.)
