Calculate weld inches

Calculate weld inches

Calculate weld inches

(OP)
Base issue, is I'm trying to define a basic application to assist in the calculating the approximate weld length for reporting purposes for our project mangers.

For example:

Size 200 pipe schedule 30 has the following attributes:

Wall thickness = 7.04 mm
Outside Diameter = 219.1 mm
Inside Diameter =212.06 mm
Out side circumference = 688.32 mm
Inside circumference = 666.21 mm

How would you calculate the approximate weld length based on the above.

Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal

RE: Calculate weld inches

DBITeng,

in my company your description would fit a weld length of 8 inch, but this is only being used for calculating required manhours (8 inch weld length means one butt weld on an 8 inch Schedule 40 pipe).
Try to get a time chart (John S. Page manhour manual), pick the manhours for your specific pipe and transfer it to Schedule 40 pipe. For large amounts of welds you get reasonable numbers.
Other companies may have different calculating schemes.

Kind Regards,
hahor

RE: Calculate weld inches

I calculate the circumferance of the od of the tube minus one wall thickness for the length of weld. Most of the people I deal with use this, but not everyone.
