Overriding dim will not let drawing be saved as DXF

Overriding dim will not let drawing be saved as DXF

Overriding dim will not let drawing be saved as DXF

(OP)
When overriding a dimension with "a" for example, I cannot save the drawing as DXF or DWG. This is every designer here. We are all running XP 64, SW2007x64 SP4.0.

When I click the box to not override it, I can then save it as a dxf or dwg.

Very strange. Anyone heard of this or have advice?

I sent it to our VAR and I think they are sending it to solidworks.

I have attached a screen shot of the issue and circled where I am talking about.

RE: Overriding dim will not let drawing be saved as DXF

Under dimension text, if you change "<DIM>" to "a", will it work?

^ Yes. Then it worked. But, when I use the override value box, it will not work. (will not save as DWG or DXF).

Thanks for the reply, sorry took me a day to reply, I have been in meetings all day.

I knida think that is a good thing.  When you override a dimension, the value no longer matches the geometry.  I would not want to accidentally send this type of fudged part to a cnc manufacturer.

^ Well we are not overriding it because we want to make it a different number.

Example.

You have 3 versions of a pencil.
12345-1 = 4 inches long
12345-2 = 5 inches long
12345-3 = 6 inches long

On the drawing you have the pencil dimensioned but you have the length equal to "A".

In your design table that you have on the drawing you have a column for "A". The "A" is above the 4,5,6.
12345-1 = 4
12345-2 = 5
12345-3 = 6

You want to override the length dimension to say "A"

I tried it here and it works.

^ It's weird. Its just all of our computers.

Our VAR sent it to solidworks today and told me that chances are it will not be figured out.

If we just erase <DIM> and type "A" it will save as dxf/dwg

RE: Overriding dim will not let drawing be saved as DXF

The "override dimension" feature is relatively new.  I have always done what you are describing by erasing <dim> as well.

I heard from solidworks. Its a known bug. Its fixed in SP5. SP5 is due to be released next think (my VAR thinks).
