Spacepilot issues in SW2008

(OP)
I don't know if this pertains only to the Spacepilot or all of 3DConnexion's devices but in SW2008 SP0.0 x64 the standard view buttons (TLFR) do not work anymore.  I finally got a response on their forum stating that this is a known problem and they will be releasing 3Dx ver 3.5 very soon.

From ngomes of 3DConnexion:

This is an known issue that has been fixed in Release 3.5. It will be possible to download the software in a matter of days.

After installing the update, it may be necessary to reset the assigned command to their defaults (for each loaded environment, open the Button Mapping panel in SolidWorks and press the "Default" button).

RE: Spacepilot issues in SW2008

Good to know... I knew the pilot was not supported in SW08 because mine stopped working in beta. I look forward to the new driver being released.

RE: Spacepilot issues in SW2008

Hmmm, my SpaceNavigator still works with '08. Must be something with the fancy LCD and extra buttons on the Pilot.

Yeah, it's the standard view buttons (TLRF) not passing the ctrl+1 keypress to the software.  When I key it in manually on the keyboard it works, but, even mapping 'Front' to let's say Button 6 or anything else it still refuses to change views.  The rotation and all of the other commands are still functional except for the standard views.

RE: Spacepilot issues in SW2008

My Spaceball 5000 USB had issues after I installed the SW2008 download sp0.0, with SW2007 also left installed.  Trying to remove and install the 3dxware driver became impossible.  There seems to be some issue with the SW2007 & SW2008 & 3dconnexion drivers.  I finally got it sorted out by installing the 3dxware from 3.4.2 and the SolidWorks plugin from the 3.3.2 driver.  The way to do this is to extract the two drivers with Winrar, and run the 3dxware and SolidWorks plugin .msi files seperately.  I'm sure that this method will not be endorsed by 3dconnexion, but it did solve my problem.

RE: Spacepilot issues in SW2008

I am confused by what the difference is between the SpaceNavigator Standard Edition and the Space Navigator Personal Edition. I mean will not both of them work with Solidworks? Why the $40 difference.

Priced for Education and Personal Use

3Dconnexion offers two editions of the SpaceNavigator, SpaceNavigator SE (standard edition) and SpaceNavigator PE (personal edition). SpaceNavigator PE is priced at $59 (US$59) and is licensed for education or personal use. SpaceNavigator PE users get online support only through the 3Dconnexion forum. SpaceNavigator SE is priced at $99 (US$99) and comes with an unlimited use license appropriate for commercial purposes, as well as full phone, email and online support. Both products work exactly the same, come with a two-year warranty and are compatible with over 100 applications.

I interpret that as 3Dconnexion giving students and educators a break on price. A good and common business strategy.

cheers

Rocko-
The $40 price difference is support. One is online only, the other is the full-blown support. In all the years I've had a Space<controller name>, I've never needed full-blown support.

RE: Spacepilot issues in SW2008

FYI - Because I lost support on my CadMan I called support with the bad news that it would no longer work with SW2008. They did get me to there site: http://www.3dconnexion.com/swpromo/en

RE: Spacepilot issues in SW2008

Cool!  Not that $99 was a lot to shell out, but every little bit helps...
