Modifying part geometry

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I am trying create a deformed part from an existing part created in ABAQUS by applying a remapping of coordinates due to simple shear.  I would like to use the deformed part in another project and for another analysis.  So far, what I have tried to do is to extract the node set for the part from the *.INP job file, apply a remapping of the coordinates in MATLAB, and then paste the new coordinates to overwrite the old net set.  I then save a new *.INP file with the new node set and then use the import feature in ABAQUS to create a model.

When I do this however, it creates an orphan mesh and I have trouble interfacing the orphan mesh with a native one and cannot do some things that I am able to do with a native part.  Does anyone know how I can create a part from an orphan mesh?  Or does anyone know how I can obtain a part whose configuration is a simple shear remapping of an original part?

Please help me if you have any suggestion!  I've been working on this problem for a while.

Thanks,
AGY
