Vessel/Heat Exchanger made out of 31254 material

Vessel/Heat Exchanger made out of 31254 material

ASME Sec IID does not list allowable stress values for 31254 material (Not there for all product forms), also there is no mention of 31254 material in ASME Sec VIII div 1 and Div 2, does it mean that ASME Sec VIII Division 1 and ASME sec VIII Div 2 does not permit the use of 31254?

RE: Vessel/Heat Exchanger made out of 31254 material

Typically, when there are no stress lines that means the material product form cannot be used UNLESS there is a code case. Did you check on code cases?

My mistake. Just located 31254 allowable stress in ASME and is permitted for fabrication of the vessel.

It is in ANSI B 31.3, i could not locate the allowable stress.

Strange, ASME Sec II D permits, but ANSI B 31.3 does not list 31254.

In ASME Sec II D i could not locate 32760

RE: Vessel/Heat Exchanger made out of 31254 material

Not strange at all, code bodies are territorial and like to set there own rules for use, including materials. Read B31.3, Paragraph 323.1.2. You can use the allowable stress values in Section II provided they are as conservative as those established in Appendix A.

I did not check for the stress lines. If you can't find it, follow my first post.
