network error

network error

(OP)
Hi,

A few of us have been getting messages flash up saying "network error" which often does not let us save work. The only way to solve this is to shut everything in solidedge down and open them up again.
We've recently found that they come up on the hour of when you log on to the computer i.e 08:58....09:58....

Has anyone else encountered this problem? or maybe know how to solve it.

Thanks

RE: network error

Hello mfor,

Sorry for the very late reply and seeing that no one else is responding I will share some of my own experience.

We use to get the same message, that was until we got a much better network switch, better network cable and went from a workgroup to a domain controller (Windows Server 2003). The problem is hardware and network software related, not Solid Edge.

My guess is that you guys are using a mapped drive for all the users. The amount of information that travels through your network to this single drive is enormous and it will create a bottleneck, causing network errors.

Our next logical step was to implement Insight Server. We now have a very basic server running SQL 2000 and Sharepoint Server, handling all the CAD information. Now, when you open a Solid Edge file it is check-out to you and you work from your local cache, decreasing the amount of network traffic and making it more stable.

Start by looking at your current network hardware and depending on the amount of users and information I would recommend Insight Server.

Kind regards,
Theodore

RE: network error

Toffeet must be right about this because at my last job I was getting those network problem often and once we changed the server and upgraded the network those issues didn't came back. Now at my new job I'm working only on my hard drive and I don't remember having this problem.
