Axial Stiffness of Armoured Umbilical
Axial Stiffness of Armoured Umbilical
(OP)
Folks
I am looking for some generic information which would allow me to assess the axial stiffness of a wire armoured umbilical.
The umbilical is the tether connecting an ROV to the garage so comprises the armour, hydraulic hoses, power and telemetry feed etc. It also acts as the wire to suspend the load.
I am looking at a launch and recovery system and need to identify a umbilical stiffness in order to determine snatch loads.
The manufacturer is not will to disclose this information.

RE: Axial Stiffness of Armoured Umbilical
K = PL/AE
P = unit load
L = length
A = cross-sectional area of component
E = Young's Modulus of component
To account for all components working in parallel (recall from Circuit 101)
1/Kt = 1/K1 + 1/K2 + 1/K3 + ...
where Kt = Total Stiffness
