Unwrap curves on surface

(OP)
Hi all
I have problem with expande the surface with I created from tool through curve. This surface created by 2 half circles which their centers are not on straight lines (one circle smaller is tangent with the second one (bigger). By the way on this surface have some lines. Could I create flat pattern for this surface and how can I unwrap also these lines on surface to flat pattern surface? Could you help me or give me some advices
Thank you very much
Velto

RE: Unwrap curves on surface

Check out Wrap/Unwrap Curves in the help files. I will warn you, though, that it only works with straight-walled conical surfaces. Basically, if your surface is a compound surface, or curved in more than one direction (most of mine are) it won't work. I've always wanted to be able to do this with label areas I've defined on bottles, but haven't been able to.

RE: Unwrap curves on surface

Yes. I'm pretty sure that wrap-unwrap only works for a cylinder. If you are licensed for it try Application>Sheet metal>Forming Flattening. There is a tool in there for creating flat patterns that should be easily be able to do the job.

If you are lucky enough to have this license find out more by searching the forum here for earlier posts on similar topics. I have given such advice to other users in recent months.

Best Regards

RE: Unwrap curves on surface

Wrap-Unwrap also works with a Conical (Cone) surface.  And using a combination of Wrap-Unwrap and Projecting normal to a surface, you can get some very acceptable results if the doubly-curved surfaces are not that complex, such as developing tread layouts on a toridal surface for tire/tyre design.

Thank you all for your advices. I found on Sheetmetal  NX5 the useful tool for expand every kind of surfaces it is Metaform tool (Insert>SheetMetal Feature>Metaform).
