NDT Requirements for Super Duplex

Where do I find the specific code for NDT, Radiography of 12" Schedule 80 butt welded super duplex? The pressure rating is up to 1000 psi and the fluid is filtered seawater.

B31.3 sends me round in circles.

The initial seemed pipework was 100% radiographed, there is now a requirement for butt welding.

We have assumed 10% off site examination and random radiography of the erected in situ welding, amounting to 50%.

What is the code of construction for this project? Once you find out, go to the Inspection section of the Code, and you will find your answer. Base material does not govern NDT requirements, it is normally pressure and service temperature. If you have NO code of construction, you are on your own to establish requirements.

There is no particular code of construction for the Project, best International Standards. We are using ASME as the code for welding and inspection and testing which is why I quoted B31.3, however, it does appear to be open to interpretation as to the requirement and technique for testing and examination.
This is also why I included detail as to the material and the fluid being moved.
The pressure rating although up to 100 psi is contained within the ASME B16.5 Class 2500 flange rating so I am considering this as "not high pressure" and the fluid is not toxic therefore it is in the normal category.
I read this then as either no examination, only visual or at the most Random RT.
Please advise

That pressure rating should have stated 1000 psi and not 100 psi ...oops

ndttests:  I suspect you're interested to know if there are any additional non-code-required tests which will ensure the quality of the finished work from a corrosion-resistance standpoint, such as ferrite content tests during welder/procedure qualification.  Sorry, but I can't answer that one, but someone in the corrosion forum probably could.  Otherwise, B31.3 and ASME IX will specify the minimum requirements for weld/piping integrity.

No, that's not my interest, we've carried out a G48A Test, it is simply the %age of radiography required. Should B31.3 be used for desalination piping and if so what is the level of NDT required for butt welding having assumed that the fluid is
catagorised as "normal fluid service".

RE: NDT Requirements for Super Duplex

10% of the welds, from different crews, should be subjected to RT. I would use the acceptance criteria in B31.3. If defects are found, increase the percent inspection (progressive) to as high as necessary to weed out marginal weld crews.

Thanks, so 10% should be alright and B31.3 is an applicable code to use. Ta
