PDMWorks

My fellow SolidWorks gurus. I have a new machine that is giving me a headache after installing PDMWorks. The complete install went smooth but for some reason PDMWorks (SolidWorks Explorer included) at 4.0 makes it SW crash. I am almost certain the version that I downloaded from SolidWorks.com is the x32 bit version, not x64 as it suggests. The image that loads when SolidWorks Explorer opens does not have the x64 next to the name. When I open the task manager, the *32 resides next to either PDMWorks or SW Explorer. One other thing, when opening an assembly, the part files will stop building unless I move the mouse. Otherwise, SW will freeze. I have never seen this behavior before and it doesn't happen all the time. Could I be having a conflict with my mouse? Conflict with my video driver? Conflict elsewhere? Any suggestions would be very helpful. System info below.

RE: PDMWorks

My first course of action would be to remove PDMWorks/SW Explorer and re-install.

RE: PDMWorks

The type of PDMWorks and SolidWorks needs to be the same 32 or 64 bit.  If you are running 64 bit, your right you need to look at your drivers too.  We run both on 64 bit and have no problems.

Finethread - did that. The install suggests it's x64 but Windows Task Manager indentifies it with the *32 when running.

CRJones - understood. I think thats why I am having problems. I have heard other that have no problems either. Just stuck on how to get there.

I will keep trying things until my VAR gets back to me or one of you other smart fella's helps. Where is Matt Lombard, Scott Baugh, or Jeff Mirisola when you need them sadeyes Anybody know their hotline # wink

HEY JEFF!!! What would be your suggestion? Anyone else?

RE: PDMWorks

Did you turn off your virus software before installation?

RE: PDMWorks

Edson,

Your video card driver number doesn't match what's recommended for SW2007 on the SolidWorks website.  Did you transpose the 3 and the 6 at the end by accident?  If so, you're okay from that standpoint.

Having worked briefly with x64 versions of SW and PDMW a while back, I seem to recall that neither program ran in true 64-bit mode.  In particular, PDMW has to be able to communicate with a PDMW service running on a 32-bit machine, so I'm not surprised that you're seeing the "x32" in association with it.  For me, the x32 versions were far more stable than the x64 versions, but that was nearly two years ago.  Quite a bit can change in that period of time.

Ordinarily, I would suspect memory in such a situation, but with 2GB, I don't think that's your problem.  As Finethread suggested, a reinstall might be worthwhile.  Your mouse driver could also be the culprit; I've seen that happen before.  What kind of mouse/driver are you using?

RE: PDMWorks

Does the size of the downloaded file match the size of the file on the website? If not, the download may be corrupt. As Chris pointed out, there are times when your anti-virus will interfere with downloads/installations. You may want to investigate that.
As for your mouse driver, if it was working before I don't think that'll be it unless you, or Windows, has updated it recently.

Yes...services were stopped on the virus software before installation...not the download though. Interesting that might be affected as well. That is correct number of the video driver per SolidWorks RX. I thought the same (transposed) too. I have reinstalled it 3 times...same deal. Crash boom...everything suggests x64 except for the splash screens that you first see in SW Explorer and the info about both say 2007 SP4.0 Build 0087. The mouse and driver are native to the IBM build but I will check that too. What is the best way to update a video driver so I can roll back if needed? I never saw a download for SW Explorer or PDMWorks for x64. You download the installation manager (mine was installed along with SolidWorks) it tells you what poison to choose from after it check the license. If someone know differently, please share.
