Linking two views together so the one follows the other.

Linking two views together so the one follows the other.

(OP)
Hello all. In Catia V5R16, i want to link two views together so that the one follows the other when it is updated, almost like a position link for text or like views when projected off another from the word go. I also need these views to stay aligned. (It's like an overlay of one view on top of another with different data shown. What is happening now, is that when the main view is updated, it moves around on the sheet and the overlay doesn't follow. Any help???? Thanks in advance!!!

RE: Linking two views together so the one follows the other.

I'd like to know why the main view (Front view?) is moving around when you do an update - that doesn't sound right.

What kind of view is the second one?

I tried to duplicate your situation, but I wasn't able to keep the views superimposed on each other.

I am wanting to show the opening position of a jig. When I have the opening angle in the main view you would usually use overload properties to change it to phantom. The roblem that i'm having is that when i do this the rest of the drawing behind the opening parts are shown in hidden detail. It should be like "ghost lines". So, what i'm trying to do is to create two seperate views, one with only the jig and anoher with only the open position, and then to overlay the two. It just looks so much better when done this way. OR, do you know of another way i can try to accomplish the same?? Maybe some way to tell it not to hide parts behind certain parts.

Hello,

this is not the answer you are waiting for but it might help...

there is an option in the Standard of the drawing. In Format / Sheet / size : Generative view positioning = (part bounding box) or (part 3D axis).

if you chose the last option views should not moved once created.

if you chose the first option, views are moving with geometry change.

You might have to change / define your Drafting Standard and upgrade existing drawing to this new standard.
