Heat Energy Testing

(OP)
Is there any way of testing/characteritising the polymer heat/energy absorption during laser welding? Laser welding 2 PE tubing onto HDPE shaft using polyester heatshrink. Any ideas?

Thanks

RE: Heat Energy Testing

You can buy and infrared temperature sensor from Sears. That will show the temperature at any place you point it at. More advanced would be an infrared camera. To work out the latent heat of melting you can use DSC or look up the values for example in the Polymer Handbook.
