RE: Custom properties on drawings

I link items 19 and 22 to the model.

RE: Custom properties on drawings

I'm very surprised to see that none of the properties are tied to the actual model. They all use the documents $PRP links and not the models $PRPSHEET ones.

cheers

RE: Custom properties on drawings

I link items 19 and 22 to the model as well. I do this for SW parts and assemblies. I also step up CP's for "NEXT ASSY" and "USED ON" that are not shown in the title block example Chris has shown us.

CBL,
Question: do you think sign-off's and dates should be tied to the model? I don't in my opinion. One of the guys here thinks they should. I think it's harder for Doc Control to do maintenance.

Just a thought...

Have a good day

RE: Custom properties on drawings

I'm with the Limey.  I link as many props as possible to the part/assembly to avoid doing a lot of rework.  Properties such as DrawnBy, DrawnDate, and sign-offs I keep within the drawing in order to make it easier to understand maintenance and document control.

RE: Custom properties on drawings

I've tried various combinations over the years but have settled on tieing only the weight to the model. Since the drawing is typically the published item, I tie all the other properties to it.

RE: Custom properties on drawings

Depends upon what you are trying to accomplish and what your company actually needs. In my situation, there are no sign-offs. I am the designer, detailer, checker, doc' controller, inspector, and more often than not the assembler, tester and shipper.

cheers

CorBlimeyLimey,
I envy you. I had a job like that (for five years) when I was starting out. I learned a lot and fast. Everyone should work for a small company when starting out and not needing the big bucks.

It varies among companies. A lot of companies still create and control drawings and link the parts/assys props to the dwg.
I think as time goes by, and more companies do not use dwgs, there will be more link values for parts/assys available.
I'm used to creating dwgs for military work where the model AND the dwg are req'd, but the sign-offs from properties are not allowed ... they still have to be original signatures.

RE: Custom properties on drawings

Chris, we're required by the FAA to have sign-off's in the title block, but once the drawing is revised we type in the signatures. Keeping the old revisions for historical purposes.

For some customers we can do that, but for customers that receive docs, they require a new signature each time. PITA!
