Construction Dust Monitoring

Construction Dust Monitoring

Construction Dust Monitoring

(OP)
The client for a job about to begin demolition stage is wondering about dust monitoring using deposit gauges. Is there any particular factors to take into account in locating the gauges? i.e. sheltered areas, areas where debris etc could throw the results way off.

RE: Construction Dust Monitoring

Not sure what a deposit gage is.  We use Mini RAMs to measure airborne particulates.  What size particulates are you interested in measuring?  What standard will you compare against to say what is unacceptable levels of dust?
We generally place one upwind as "background", and several at the property perimeter in downwind directions.
Is the monitoring to assure adjacent property owners the work is not negatively affecting them?

RE: Construction Dust Monitoring

Thanks for that. Yes, one of the owners of a neighbouring property has an asthmatic child, so we are keen to assure them that the smaller particle levels are not greatly in excess of background levels. We are damping to keep the dust down any taking all necessary precautions, so this is purely to reassure the neighbours.

RE: Construction Dust Monitoring

On sites like that, we also tell the GC that work disturbing soil must stop if wind speeds exceed a certain strength.

RE: Construction Dust Monitoring

If demo is not going to take very long,1-2 weeks, send them on vacation. The PR will be enormous and their house will be sealed for the duration.
