Partial discharge Testing online

Partial discharge Testing online

Partial discharge Testing online

(OP)
Hello All,
Can some one give me some more information on partial discharge testing on metal clad switchgear, is it a definitive test that can be used to isolate the source of the problem?
and what about corona in a substation will that be measured as PD?

Regards
Michael

RE: Partial discharge Testing online

Yes it can be used to isolate the source of the problem. EA Technology in the UK manufacture a range of devices which use a combination of ultrasonics and transient earth voltages to detect and locate partial discharges. Many of the UK Distribution Companies are using this equipment to detect switchgear problems well before they lead to failure.

RE: Partial discharge Testing online

Generally speaking on-line PD testing of switch gear is useful if performed by an expert but, on-line PD monitoring is much more effective.
