PWHT & Impact Testing

PWHT & Impact Testing

(OP)
Gentlemen,

    We are looking into building a vessel 28 feet in diameter x 308 feet tall out of SA-537 Gr.2 material 1 ¼” thick. The design temperature is -50°F so the material will require impact testing. Will heat treating be required by the ASME Code?

Thanks...

RE: PWHT & Impact Testing

keens;
Grade 2 or Class 2? Do you know this material specification? Heat treating is found in the SA material specification. PWHT requirements are found in the ASME B&PV Code. If this vessel is not a "pressure vessel", I would recommend you follow the requirements in ASME Section VIII, Div 1. If this is a pressure vessel, you better review ASME Section VIII, Div 1. Please review ASME Section VIII, Div 1 UCS-56 and UCS-66, and SA-537.

metengr,

    It is SA-537 Class 2.  Thanks...
