Broken Link

(OP)
This has been bugging me for some time. as an example, i have three parts name A.CATPart, B.CATpart and C.CATPart and a Main.CATProduct linking A,B, and C and i save them in one folder. each part has one piece of geometry in each. I then add two in part A only which i then save in a different folder. when i close out of CATIA, i then go and replace A (one piece geometry) with the new A that has two pieces. When i open its product, why is it that i can expand B and C down to the partbodies and A cannot be broken down. i see the two new pieces in the model but in the tree, i cannot do much. why is that? what is the correct terminagology?

RE: Broken Link

Hi,

Probably you have a problem with the UUID of part A or the Search Order.

CATIA is loading parts searching the parts first on the paths which you put in the Search Order and keeping the same UUID in Main.CATProduct

Hope I understood well your problem...

Regards
Fernando

RE: Broken Link

Yes, it's the Search Order.  Look under TOOLS, OPTIONS, GENERAL, DOCUMENTS, and see what your order is.  For your scenario, you probably want to look in "Folder of the Pointing Document" before you look in "Folder of the Link".  This will cause CATIA to look in the local directory first, then look in the original directory if it cannot find something in the local directory.

If you have "Folder Of the Link" first, CATIA will look in the original folder first, because the CATProduct remembers the directory path as well as the file name.
