Pickled and Oiled pipe

Pickled and Oiled pipe

Pickled and Oiled pipe

(OP)
Hello all.

What is the process of pickling and oiling steel pipe?
And what are the advantages?

Thanks.

RE: Pickled and Oiled pipe

Pickling is using an acid solution to remove oxide (mill scale, welding & heat treatment scale, rust).
Usually done in either hot sulfuric or slightly heated hydrochloric acid solutions containing inhibitor. Easier than mechanical methods if both inside & outside of pipe must be cleaned.

Oiling is temporary protection from rusting.
