new drawing (idw v dwg efficiency)

new drawing (idw v dwg efficiency)

new drawing (idw v dwg efficiency)

(OP)
autocad drafter new to inventor(using 2008)

at work we are in the process of modeling components on inventor from existing autocad drawing files.

i have modeled a RH part that has `C' channels and plates and holes etc....from this i created an idw with various views etc(this took 3 hours to dimension)....which is okay - - it takes 3 hrs to dimension in autocad.

Now trouble(a new drawing) - i want to create a LH part which is similar to the part explained above, except everything is mirrored.

In autocad this takes seconds...i would just change the mirrtext variable to (1)and mirror everything(including dimensions)to create my new drawing....this process takes about 3 or 4 commands and about 1 minute of my time to create my new drawing.

but using inventor - I have to create a new part and mirror this part, which is okay(this only takes a few seconds to mirror)...however - i now have to make a new idw drawing with new base views of the mirrored part and spend another 3 hrs dimensioning.

is there a quicker way of doing this.....all i want to do is mirror the whole original part in inventor including the dimensions.

RE: new drawing (idw v dwg efficiency)

Save your original RH drawing dimensioned and finished as you like it. Then, save it as your LH version. After that, physically move your model of the RH model to a location that you can remember. Open your LH drawing and it will ask you to resolve link, at that time you can select the LH model.

Everything should work just fine. Being an opposite hand part you may have a few dimensions to redefine, but nothing more that just a few clicks. Remember to move the original model back to where it should be after you have finished.

We simply add a note "RH SHOWN - LH OPPOSITE"
