Magnetic Levitation 101

Magnetic Levitation 101

(OP)
Hi, I have an interesting request. I want to buy magnets that can suspend my Sony point and shoot camera in mid air with only one wire and lets say magnets mounted on all 3 sides. I guess it weighs about 1.5 pounds. I want to suspend my camera to isloate it from vibrations on a very large remote controled helicoptor. But at the same time it cant fall out like on lets say a less then stellar landing. Do you have any suugestions for me? urls please.

dave

RE: Magnetic Levitation 101

Such a configuration will barely work with a helicopter in hover.  The goal of such a system is to remove ANGULAR vibrations, not translational, except when the translation vibrations induce angular motions of the payload.

Since the camera is unconstrained in yaw, there will be considerable motion in yaw.

In some scenarios, you're better off with high frame rates and short exposure times and post-processing, unless you can fork out a few grand for a 2-axis stabilized gimbal

RE: Magnetic Levitation 101

Not to mention that you're sticking high-powered magnets to a friggn' electronic device.
