Fixing MAP sensor in Bike

Fixing MAP sensor in Bike

Fixing MAP sensor in Bike

(OP)
Hi,

I am planning to fix a MAP sensor in a carbureted bike. Is there any precaution I need to follow while fixing the MAP sensor? My objective is to measure the manifold vacuum that exists in the manifold.

The bike has a 150cc, single cylinder engine. I have given the bike picture. (www.bajajauto.com/pulsar/)

Is there any dimension like the distance between the throttle body minimum dia to the location of the MAP sensor?

You may have to damp the pressure pulsations in a single cyl manifold. You can do this by using a remote-mount MAP (as opposed to one directly in the manifold) and in the rubber pipe between manifold and MAP sensor, put in a restrictor. Say, a piece of plastic pushed up the pipe with a 1mm hole drilled in it.

If I were doing this, I'd try to put the tapping point for the pressure take-off at least 50mm down from the trailing edge of the throttle plate when wide-open.
OEM users of MAP sensors are usually bound by MAP suppliers to ensure that the sensor is mounted witihn certain attitude limits. What this boils down to is trying to avoid the entry of wet manifold gasses into the sensor itself and to also avoid any condensation of fuel or water inside the sensor.

Be wary of the Helmholtz resonance if you are putting a restriction in the rubber line.

Use a common automotive after market fuel filter in series with the sensor. the filter housing acts as a accumulator, dampening the readings, and the filter element prevents most contaminates from reaching the sensor. Still may have to have an orifice.
