Piping practices

(OP)
Hi,

I am designing both air and natural gas pipe manifolds. What is the proper piping practice with regards to sizing the manifold for the number of branches of pipe.

Example: (5) 1.5" natural gas lines would require what size manifold?

Any help is appreciated.

RE: Piping practices

Without checking flow and pressure drops at various locations along the manifold and all that, I think you can get a reasonable first size by setting the header diameter to that required to give an internal cross-sectional area equal to the sum of the branch internal areas.

RE: Piping practices

I would probably also add about 40% extra capacity to BigInch's figures for future tie-ins.
