Making perfect lofts?

Making perfect lofts?

Making perfect lofts?

(OP)
Hi, does anyone know how to make perfect lofts?

For example: After creating a loft between two profiles, you can move the two little light blue dots around the perimeter of each profile in order to create different body shapes. If these profiles are both circles, how can you line both dots up in order to create a perfect body that is not twisted in any way?

I'm sure it's something simple but I don't seem to be able to find it!

Thanks in advance.

RE: Making perfect lofts?

You should see lines connecting the dots. Those lines should be in-line with the axis.

cheers

Use a fully-constrained guide curve, and you won't have to deal with the annoying blue dots.

Or, with circles, simply sketch a centerline to where you want to connect the circles in making the loft.  Make each line vertical or horizontal and connect where the line intersects the circle.  Do something similar with any sort of shape.

Reason trumps all.  And awe transcends reason.

RE: Making perfect lofts?

If you RMB the graphics area and select SHow all connectors you can see all the blue dots for each location on the is connecting.

Sometimes just using the connectors is good enough, but then again it may not be, then you may need to use more profiles  and multiple guide curves.

Thanks all. I drew a line connecting the edges of the circle at 90° to the circles and used that as a guide curve. I did try this before but I think it did not work because I made the guide curve a construction line!

RE: Making perfect lofts?

The dots stick to verticies in your sketches, but otherwise you cannot constrain them.  Create breaks in your sketches where you want the dots to stick.  The goal is to have the same number of verticies on each of the loft sections, so each connector will span between the corresponding vertex on each sketch.

RE: Making perfect lofts?

That is where you can place more profiles instead of points in your guide curve... the more profiles you use the smoother the flow of the loft.
