Stud shear strength
Stud shear strength
(OP)
Hello,
I'm looking to solve an internal shear strength problem. I have 1/4-20 all thread stud inserted into a cast aluminum part. I can calculate the shear strength of the aluminum. What I need is a website, book, anything that I can give to my boss that can explain the facts on course thread fastener failures.
Anybody have any ideas????

Thanks again.

"Bolts and Nuts". Material Strength is
valid for any material. You have to evaluate
internal threads as well as external threads.
They list length of engagement formulas and
I think that is what you want.
HDS Handbook for Threads is a good reference too.

RE: Stud shear strength
1/4-20 is about the weakest thread , size-for-size, since the threads are relatively deep.
