Engine Simulation Software

Engine Simulation Software

(OP)
Hello -

I've been looking (unsuccessfully) for a users group or website for sharing information, tips and simulation files for engine simulation software.  I saw a post on the subject here from '05 but it doesn't look like it got off the ground.

Does anyone know of anything out there?

I've got Dynomation, Pipemax and some Perf. Trends software.

Thanks -

Michael

RE: Engine Simulation Software

Michael,

While it isn't dedicated to the subject you mention there is a web site www.speedtalk.com that has many discussions on this and other issues related to automotive performance.

In the engine business, folks typically use some of these software packages to simulate engines:

AVL's   BOOST
Gamma Technologies   GT  Power
Ricardo's  WAVE software
In-house software codes   (SWRI  has a simple in-house code, as do other organizations)

       These software packages are expensive.

Hi guys -

Thanks - yes I've been reading posts at speedtalk but I haven't found much in actual sharing of knowledge about the programs or in file sharing.  For instance - once one of us has created a good cam file for Jerry Woods GE100 cams for large bore early Porsche applications, it'd be nice to share it with others and all benefit - someone else can do whatever they are doing, etc.

I realize that the mfr's and some of the high end engine builders are using some really nice and spendy software - Tony Blair's, Lotus Engineering, etc but as for me I'm a small timer.

I know there's plenty of other small and not so small timers successfully using Dynomation, Performance Trends, Larry Meaux's Pipemax, etc

No reason to share your proprietary special projects files, but surely I can't be the only one modelling small bore motorcycles, run of the mill Porsche engines, etc.  using these packages.  I'd sure like to share files and experiences with other users.

Cheers!

Michael

RE: Engine Simulation Software

Michael,

There is a forum that was set up a couple of years ago to try and do exactly what you have been talking about:

http://www.fourstrokedesign.com/forums/

This forum is primarily aimed at people using Optimum Power's Virtual Engines software - similar to the GT-Powers, Ricardo Waves and AVL Boosts of this world, but have been finding it tough to attract interest outside of the universities where the students can get all of the above softwares for free (almost!) for use on their FSAE projects.

Oh yeah - I think you are referring to Prof Gordon Blair's software and not "Tony" Blair's software - the latter was the Prime Minister of the UK!

Oops - yes I meant Gordon Blair.  Tired last night.

That forum is exactly what I'm looking for, except targeted to a different (or wider) set of software.

Thanks!

Michael
