Hi Pete :
It makes sense if we are calculating averages:
50C = 122F
10C = 50F THEIR SUM:
-------------
60C # 172F BUT HALVE THEM, AND
30C = 86F Q.E.D
--------------------------------
BUT ALL SUMS GIVEN AS CHOICES ARE WRONG.

RE: Hi Pete : It makes sense if we are
As I have mentioned above, 50C rise above 50F ambient gives a different answer than 50F rise above 50C ambient.
50F ambient + 50C*(9F/5C) rise =140F
50C ambient + 50F*(5C/9F) rise =77.8C=172F
RE: Hi Pete : It makes sense if we are
The problem with your logic is that centigrade starts at 0 while the equivalent number in Fahrenheit starts at 32. If you modify your equations it would read.
50C = 122F = 90 normalized to zero
10C = 50F = 18 normalized to zero
--------------------- add them up
= 108 normalized to zero
+32F add back in offset
----
60C = 140F
divide by 2 108/2 = 56
+32F add back in offset
-----
30C = 86F
by adding and divding without taking into account the 32 they cancel each other out.
