Is there any kind of material used as backplate and that can be removed after welding

Is anything wrong with removing them?

Backplates are handy but we can not figure how to remove them

Yes, you can use a ceramic backer that is held on with an adhesive tape.  I don't remember what brand I've used, but here's the first result from a google search.

In most cases there's nothing wrong with removing them.

RE: Full penetration with backplate-any removable backplate

Edit:  obviously there's nothing at all wrong with removing the ceramic backers.  I meant there's nothing wrong with removing a steel backer if you can.

There are also flux back up tapes. Heavy Copper or water cooled Copper backup bars can also be used.

ESAB and Cerbaco also supply ceramic backing systems.

Do "heavy" copper and "water-cooled" copper eliminate the "melting" of copper problem entirely?

RE: Full penetration with backplate-any removable backplate

A qualified yes. Interruptions in water cooling supply or use of too high heat input can lead to melting.

We have recently qualified manual and automatic FCAW procedures using the Cerbaco ceramic backing with excellent results. Ceramic backing design is highly important to provide the most desireable and repeatable weld profile.
