checking waffle slab w/ upturned beam moment capacity by hand

checking waffle slab w/ upturned beam moment capacity by hand

Anyone know how to do this by hand?  It's a big planter that has a waffle-type two-way slab with an upturned/upset beam.

I am modeling the system in ADAPT but I want to check my capacity by hand also for a column strip width and a middle strip width.

Thanks.

RE: checking waffle slab w/ upturned beam moment capacity by hand

Article 13.1.3 of ACI 318-02 writes-

"solid slabs or slabs with recesses or pockets made by permanent or removable fillers between ribs or joists in two directions are included within the scope of chapter-13."

So, you may be able to use direct or equivalent frame method to atleast check the numbers produced by ADAPT. You need the hand calculation to chaeck the accuracy of the computer out put anyway.

Thanks...but what I'm looking for is how to check the moment capacity, not the moments.  I guess I have to do a strain analysis long-hand...?
