Annual expanded metal thread

I found that someone asked this just about a year ago... but I'll ask it again. Is there a good way to model expanded metal in Swx 2007, or even 2008?

And yes, I'd like the mass to be half-way accurate.

Thanks

RE: Annual expanded metal thread

No real change that I know of.  It's all there in the thread.  I guess if you were fully insane and wanted to accurately model the stuff, 64 bit with 16GB or so of RAM and a $5000 graphics card might make it semi-possible.

RE: Annual expanded metal thread

A "good way"? Not so sure about that. It can be done, and you don't need a system quite powerful as handleman mentions, assuming you're not trying to create some huge part. The last time I did it, and this would have been around '02 (with a crappy system), it was about 24"x48" and took around 15-20 mins for the linear pattern to solve.

Ok thanks...., kinda what I figured. It would be nice to have steel mesh as an option for material. It's not that unusual for people to use the stuff. If I were king of Solidworks, I would decree that it would be included as an option.  Also if I were king of Solidworks, I would demand that all kneel before me and quiver with fear.  I'd also wear a really kickass hat.  That would be awesome.

RE: Annual expanded metal thread

But only if you first designed the hat in SWX! ;)

RE: Annual expanded metal thread

I would still use a texture, with transparency and weight adjusted to suit in the model.

A Shaded (without edges) view looks acceptably lifelike in a drawing.

cheers
