Separation requirement between fuel lines and power

Separation requirement between fuel lines and power

Separation requirement between fuel lines and power

(OP)
We have a situation where we want to duct fuel (diesel)lines across/ through perpendicularly concrete trenches which is holding 4160V power cables.  We are doing this because it is very difficult to route these double-wall Geoflex lines under the trenches.
I am currenty researching whether there is any code requirement regarding separation between these lines, or is it considered a code violation?  Can we sleeve these lines through the trenches either with a PVC sleeve or Galv Steel pipe extending 24" on both sides to meet any safety requirement?

RE: Separation requirement between fuel lines and power

I once saw a lineman grab a 4160 V cable at a transformer with his gloved hand (he said that he had just meggered his gloves or he wouldn't have done it) and I can still remember the (buzzing/hissing) sound when his hand contacted the cable.

And you want to run WHAT through that trench?

RE: Separation requirement between fuel lines and power

Check the nfpa codes for diesel fuels for separations.

RE: Separation requirement between fuel lines and power

The trench may be considered a hazardous environment. If so, the cables would need to be rated appropriately. If the cables may come in contact with fuel (leaks, etc), they should have jacket material rated for oil contact.
