I have a line of columns on the property line which doesnt allow me to do concentric pad footings. The design wil have to deal with zero length on the side of the property line. I've read about using a combined footing but I dont have another column to do this. I also read about using a counterweigth and form like an I shaped structure. I'm trying to look for the best solution. How can I design this footing?

Since you don't have a nearby row of columns (they are needed to do either combined footings or strap footings), I would recommend pulling the columns away from the property line.

Another option is to build a continuous grade beam--the bearing pressure is equal to the sum of the column reactions divided by the area of grade beam bearing on grade.  The grade beam will bend upward between the columns, and must be designed for this.

You can find information on the design on eccentric footings in the text by Braja Das.  I recommend looking there.  Try searching the site also; this has been discussed several times.

The solution somewhat depends upon how much load you are supporting. For small loads, you may be able to build an L-shape footing-pier and tie it into the slab to counterbalance the eccentricity.

If the structure is multistory or the loads are large, you might consider other solutions.

my suggestion is to designed it as L shape or cantilever method, provided that you have to provide also a grade beam for more stability of the structures.
