Interior Lining of Diesel Tanks

Interior Lining of Diesel Tanks

Interior Lining of Diesel Tanks

(OP)
I am pretty new to the Oil and Gas industry, but I am trying to decide weather I should coated or line the interior of some diesel tanks. My gut feeling is that diesel is not really that corrosive of a substance, however it does contain water. Has anyone seen diesel tanks with there interior coated?

RE: Interior Lining of Diesel Tanks

Yes, the coating of internal surface with immersion quality of epoxy (phenolic) is quite common. Depending on the tank configuration and service, you might save a buck by coating only the bottom of the tank and say, 2-3 feet of the shell above the bottom.
cheers,

RE: Interior Lining of Diesel Tanks

We do not use an internal coating in our diesel tanks. gr2vessel's recommendation of an epoxy phenolic coating is a good one, but the expense of that coating is most likely not justified with the improved corrosion protection. If you can get the water out, do that. If you can't, make sure you have a well designed, well maintained, and well USED water draw system on your tank. If you can't do this, look for a thin film epoxy coating.
