Notice a driver change between the SpaceBall 4000flx and 5000 USB?

I finally replaced my serial SpaceBall 4000flx with a USB 5000 to facilitate a KVM switch arrangement I use.

I was very dismayed to find that the motion tracking is nowhere as smooth as my steam powered serial 4000flx. I can't simultaneously rotate and translate. I've turned off the "dominant axis" option and tried fiddling with the gain on the translation and rotation to no avail.

I got really used to being able to rotate while translating. Did 3DX dumb down their drivers for user friendliness?

nevermind. I found a post in 3dConnexions forum which indicated that separating zoom from rotate is an intentional change in the current drivers to make it more user friendly. sigh.
