Large Diameter poured in place storm manholes

Large Diameter poured in place storm manholes

I am trying to find a detail for poured in place large storm manholes (for 48" to 66" pipe). Could anyone direct me to either a site or a publication w/ a typical detail for this? All my details are either pre-cast or brick of which neither will apply to this condition.
Thanks

DavidSB,

Sorry David, but the last one I did was three companies ago for a connection in Chicago. Suggest you contact the Engineer's office for the agency that you need to make happy.

RE: Large Diameter poured in place storm manholes

Why could you not use a precast unit?

RE: Large Diameter poured in place storm manholes

Every one draws it different. All you have to do for in place pipe is dig down to the invert of the existing pipe. Make sure you have enough area at the bottom to support your manhole material and any live loads that may be transfered. Place concrete from invert up to the top of the pipe. place manholes sectyions on this. Then cut out the area you need for drainage. If this is new pipe, use prefab manhole sections

Thanks all for your input. I got the City Engineer to change his mind and allow a brick manhole for this special case.

Oh yeah, and FYI dont believe a contractor when he tells you he can pour-in-place manholes LOL.... I allowed that substitution at a pre-bid conference and These guys can even set the molds correctly..(avoid the headaches and require pre-fab!!)

RE: Large Diameter poured in place storm manholes

DavidSB,

I can't imagine that brick would be 1) that much easier to construct, and 2) perform any better long-term.

I agree that CIP manholes - especially large-diameter and/or deep require a skilled (and better, experienced) contractor to construct.
