multi-core processors with SW2007

multi-core processors with SW2007

(OP)
Will I notice a big difference in performance of SW2007 if I upgrade from a single core processor to a dual core or quad core?  Right now my biggest problem as one may imagine is slow performance when working with *large* assemblies.  If the number of cores in not the answer to this, what is?  I am aware of large assembly mode.

RE: multi-core processors with SW2007

What are your current systems specs?  How long ago did you purchase the system?

I would say that a new Core 2 Duo system will be faster then what you have today.  If you do a lot of PhotoWorks/CosmosWorks/FEA then a Core 2 Quad will give you a nice bump in performance.

While not a large assembly, I have a spreadsheet located at the link below that will give you an idea of the processing performance of various processors on a heavily patterned SolidWorks part.

You can download the model for yourself and try it out on your current system.

Also, read through the forum archives there are numerous recent posts on system performance as it relates to dual and quad core systems.

RE: multi-core processors with SW2007

I dual core will run SW better and a little faster then a single CPU, but again its not a Multi-threaded software (see many other threads on this Same issue).

Look at RAM... if you exceed 2GB of RAM on your system look at the 3GB switch and get 4GB of RAM, if you exceed that your only option is to go 64-bit.

You must also have a Certified VC and drivers before beginning this process.

Please search this site and other sites as these types of posts have been beaten to death over the years.
