Cannot pick part or edge in assembly

Cannot pick part or edge in assembly

Cannot pick part or edge in assembly

(OP)
I have assemblies that I cannot pick a part from the work area to open (I have to find it in the tree), nor can I pick an edge to measure. Everything highlights. The assemblies were made by someone no longer here. The parts that I cannot pick are groups of parts that were patterned using a circular component pattern. The assemblies are very symmetrical and the parts were duplicated one time at 180 degrees (2 instances/elements). The parts in the tree are under component pattern (circular pattern icon) then it has elements 1 and element 2, and under the elements it has 50 or so parts. As mentioned at the beginning, I cannot pick on any of the parts without everything highlighting. How can I pick on these parts, edges, and surfaces directly from the assembly model?

Thanks,

RE: Cannot pick part or edge in assembly

Change your selection filter to parts or to features. In the "Inventor Standard" toolbar, there is a button that says "select" and probably has an "L" shaped stack of boxes in it. This is the selection filter button, change it.
