Calculating Skirt Access Reinforcement.

Calculating Skirt Access Reinforcement.

Calculating Skirt Access Reinforcement.

(OP)
I am wondering if anyone has an approach to calculate the reinforcement required for a 24" hole in a 5/8" skirt.  The supports are designed to ASCE7-05.

RE: Calculating Skirt Access Reinforcement.

Well, a simple method might be area replacement.

Regards,

Mike

RE: Calculating Skirt Access Reinforcement.

jaybone,

Check out this thread... thread794-170653: Maximum Size of Skirt Openings

I use the same approach as jte... "calculate the moment of inertia of the skirt without an opening, then calculate the moment of inertia with an unreinforced opening, then calculate how much reinforcement you'd need to maintain the original moment of inertia"

RE: Calculating Skirt Access Reinforcement.

EN 13445 Part 3, Chapter 16 has some methods for calculating skirt reinforcing as well. There are limits based on the opening diameter and the vessel (skirt) diameter.
