Transferring Catia V4 models into Solidworks 2006

Transferring Catia V4 models into Solidworks 2006

(OP)
Is it possible for the above subject to be performed? I have spoken to a colleague and he said it may be possible to transfer models from Catia to Solidworks by saving the file as a .dxf file. Does anyone have experience of doing this another way or is it even possible? Bear in mind I have absolutely no experience with Catia.

RE: Transferring Catia V4 models into Solidworks 2006

You will need a Catia translator - Formatworks.

Saving it as DXF will only allow you to bring it in as either sketches or into a drawing. If you want a solid get the translator.

RE: Transferring Catia V4 models into Solidworks 2006

I'd suggest trying the neutral files that Catia can export (IGES, STEP, etc.) before looking into a translator.  I'd be less than optimistic, having worked with Catia exports in the past, but why not start with the free solution to see if it fits your needs?

The success you'll have with IGES and the like is totally dependent on what your end goal is.

Great translation service.  They got all the toys, and guarantee their output.

When we did the math, we found that having a good translation saved enough time (and $$$) to make this service worthwhile.

I recommend going CATIA to parasolid, then bring parasolid into SW yourself.  That way, you have some choice as to how you arrange components & assemblies.
