RE: Plotter setup NX3

Here's a walk through article:

http://newsletter.plmworld.org/archive/Vol4No3/port_plotting.php

One thing that they don't tell you about it is this.

1.  At least on NX5 you *may* need to adjust your 'role' to have more options to get into the File -> Utilities -> Printer Administration

2.  You must specify the path to the directory that has the plotter configuration files or create a new one.  You will want to probably do this either on the users network share or on the local machine.  The problem is if the user has 'reduced' rights then they will not always be able to make changes.

3.  Any printer that you wish to plot to must already be connected to the machine via the Start -> Control Panel -> Printers

RE: Plotter setup NX3

bdeloria,

Thanks for the procedure post. I have gone thru it step by step and when I try and plot a drawing I get the "Internal error: memory access violation" message window.

We are using PC based NX3 native and I do have Admin privileges. I set-up the new directory (T:\UG_NX_Custom_Plot_Files\nxplot\) and copied the files per the document. I also put the following statement in my ugii_env.dat file:

UGII_SDI_SERVER_CFG_DIR=T:\UG_NX_Custom_Plot_Files\nxplot\

I then added the Printer Name: Canon iPF700 to the Printer Set-up. This model does not appear in the drop down list of Printer Models so I left it on +*SDI PDF:PDF. This might be the problem.

The Printer is set to NT/Queue  Local: \\192.168.60.4\Canon iPF700 (This is our plotter location.)

When I reopen NX and a drawing I File / Plot and my choice is: SH1 C, Raster  I then hit Plot and that is when the error message appears.

RE: Plotter setup NX3

I may be all wet here, I'd first try plotting to a file.  CGM/HPGL2 file.  Then I'd go on to use nxprint and print from the file to the printer.  This should help eliminate any questions you have in regards to whether it's the biting it on the plotting or on the printing.

You should also be able to see this in the syslog file as well.  You may need to either grab the file when it crashes or tell it to save the syslog regardless of whether it crashes.  Sometimes I've noticed it would crash especially when it would CTD crash to desktop and not show the user an error and purge the log file.

Also try plotting to a regular printer or a local printer if possible first and eliminate if it's a plotter communication problem.  You may find that a setting or two may be a bit tweaked.

Thanks,

Brian

RE: Plotter setup NX3

OK, I got the answer to the "Internal error: memory access violation" from GTAC. Our "My Documents" folder is redirected using a UNC path instead of a mapped drive.

Solution: Either map the "My Documents" folder using a specific drive letter or in our case we manually added a sess_0 folder under \My Documents\print_submit\<cpu name>\

Now our problem is that the Printer Name: Canon iPF700 does not appear in the list under Printer Set-up.  Anyone have any idea as to what to do now?
