Blanchard Cortland Bonus Grind head

Blanchard Cortland Bonus Grind head

(OP)
Hi All,

We recently aquired a 36", 50 H.P. Blanchard grinder, and it came with a standard head and a bonus grind head, both made for segments.  I believe (but not positive) that the segments for the bonus grind head are thicker, thus covering more surface area, which in turn grinds material a bit faster.  But, the bonus grind segments also fit on the standard head so it begs the question, what is different about the bonus grind head that requires it's use when using bonus grind segments?  Does it have to do with the placement of the coolant holes for the coolant coming through the center of the head?

Thanks for any help.

Ranck

RE: Blanchard Cortland Bonus Grind head

I assume that your "bonus head" is a chuck with a larger diamiter than the standard chuck? if this is true it allow you to cover more of the chuck as one time. It also increases the SFPM of the grinding segments thus making them act a little bit harder. Depending on how much larger that chuck is may affect the selection of the segments because as the diamiter goes up so will the syntrifical forces generated.
